    Glasnevin Learning Portal - Coming Soon

    This online platform allows schools to remotely access many learning opportunities that are contained within Glasnevin cemetery. Explore the interactive timeline and map to discover the origins of the cemetery. Learn about people in the past and discuss how individual lives were affected by historical events which are studied in class. Connect your locality to national and international events. A range of tailored learning activities and resources will aid students’ discovery of the past.

    Guided History Tour

    Our unique History Tour gives students the opportunity to explore the diversity of Irish life since 1800. They will discover more about individuals and events that are central to the Decade of Centenaries. Topics include: Catholic Emancipation, Home Rule, World War One, the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence, and the Civil War. Fee per student: €7.00 

    First World War Tour

    Explore the individual experiences of Irish men and women during the Great War. Introduce your class to the history of Glasnevin Cemetery. Discover the experiences of individual Irish Soldiers, Workers in Munitions Factories, and Civilians. Fee per student: €7.00


    Artefacts Handling Session

    Teachers - you have the option to add a WW1 Artefact Handling Session to your tour. Students can get to grips with original artefacts from the time of the war. They have a unique opportunity to handle artefacts, ask questions, and to connect with the past. Fee per student: €8.50 (Inc. Tour & Artefact Handling Session)

    CBA Focused Tour

    Classroom Based Assessment

    We can adapt our guided tour to further:

    • Support student investigation into the history of Glasnevin Cemetery.
    • Introduce students to a variety of topics and ideas for their CBA projects.
    • Examine museum displays with a focus on class projects.

    Transition Year Tour Guiding Programme

    Our one of a kind Transition Year Tour Guiding Programme is designed to give students an experience of the real life world of Tour Guiding! Students have the opportunity to develop skills in research and public speaking. This programme consists of two visits to Glasnevin Cemetery.

    Visit One: Learn about the tourism industry, customer service, and the skills needed to research and deliver a tour. An expert tour guide will demonstrate and explain these skills.

    In the Classroom: Students carry out their own historical research and create a unique presentation.

    Visit Two: Students step into the shoes of a tour guide and present to their class at the grave of a historical figure. A Certificate of Completion is presented to all who fully complete the Tour Guiding Programme.

    Total cost €8.00 per student - two visits inclusive. (This programme can be adapted for other year groups on request.)
