Dublin Cemeteries Trust is delighted to announce a special one-night performance of Stories from Dubliners by Volta Theatre Company at Glasnevin Cemetery on Wednesday, 8 July at 7.30pm. Volta Theatre Company brings three of Joyce’s most celebrated short stories to one of Dublin’s most storied and atmospheric settings.

These vivid “slices of life” from early 20th century Dublin are brought to life in engrossing scenes, accompanied by live music.

In Two Gallants, a couple of ne’er-do-wells mooch around Dublin on the make. A Little Cloud sees a sensitive soul thrown into turmoil by a meeting with an old college friend returned from London, while Counterparts takes audiences on a doomed pub crawl with an ungainly, bad-tempered law clerk.

At once funny and tragic, Joyce’s tales are populated with an array of colourful characters who remain entirely contemporary, despite the bowler hats and Edwardian collars. Having sold out its run at Smock Alley Theatre, this special evening at Glasnevin Cemetery presents a rare opportunity for those who missed out to experience what critics have called “superbly articulated performances” and “a perfect hour’s entertainment.”

    ‘Exquisite… heart-rendingly perfect’ – Emer O’Kelly, Sunday Independent

‘Superbly articulated performances…’ – Chris O’Rourke, The Arts Review

    ‘A perfect hour’s entertainment…’ – Katy Hayes, Irish Independent
