Cremation

    With Dublin Cemeteries Trust

We're Ireland's first cremation providers, supporting families with compassion since 1982.

    Choosing Cremation

Choosing cremation offers families a flexible and personal way to honour a loved one, with options for memorialisation that suit individual wishes, beliefs and traditions. It allows for meaningful services, a range of remembrance choices, and the freedom to remember in a way that's right for each family.

    Why are families choosing cremation?

    • Greater flexibility in timing and planning a memorial service.
    • More options for how and where to create a lasting tribute.
    • The ability to inter ashes in an existing family grave, keeping loved ones together.
    • Practical factors such as cost and space in urban areas.
    • Personal, cultural and environmental values.
    • A desire to ease pressure on family members at a difficult time.

    Service Options

At Dublin Cemeteries Trust, we work closely with your Funeral Director and family to ensure every service reflects the wishes, beliefs and personality of the person being remembered.

    Committal Service

If you wish to have your main funeral service at a church or other location, you can choose a Committal Service at your crematorium of choice afterwards. This is a short service, similar to what would happen at a cemetery burial.

    Full Service

With a Full-Service Funeral, you have the entire service at the crematorium. This is a longer service, and it usually takes place in a chapel onsite. We personalise the Committal Services by Advance meeting with a member of our team.

    No Service

With this option, you’re choosing to have no service at all in advance of the cremation.

    Frequently Asked Questions

A cremation service is very similar to a burial service. The service is normally 20 minutes, but we offer extended services of up to 50 minutes for families who want to include more music, prayers, or poems. At the end of the service, the coffin is normally hidden from view by curtains or moved to a separate room.
After the service, the coffin is taken to the crematorium. The body and coffin are both cremated. The ashes you receive consist of the remains of the deceased.
Most Christian denominations, including the Roman Catholic Church, allow cremation, as do Sikhs, Hindus, and Buddhists. Some religions, such as Orthodox Jews and Islam, do not permit cremation.
Generally, cremations are less expensive than burials because there is no need to purchase a grave plot or pay interment fees for existing plots. Your Funeral Director can discuss the specific costs and options with you.
